In home visits: $15 fee each visit if travel exceeds

What have you heard about breastfeeding?  It’s cheaper?  It’s painful? Formula and breast milk are pretty similar?

I started breast feeding without a whole lot of knowledge about it.  I was stubborn and it worked for me.  It wasn’t until I started working with postpartum families that I started to learn how difficult it could be, how much conflicting advice is offered constantly, and how many factors there are to consider.  I have assisted mothers and families with breast feeding for the last 8 years and my biggest takeaways are: 

Most of us do not understand how our body and our infant’s body are set up to work together to provide nourishment and protection.

Very few people know the numerous benefits of breast milk.

Pain is not an expectation and should be an indicator to seek out help.

There is help available if you know where to look.

Support is instrumental in success with breast feeding. Partners can make or break successful breast feeding,

Knowledge is power. Everyone who is pregnant or planning on caring for an infant should take an infant feeding class.

I support mothers however they choose to feed their baby.  My goal is to help families to be connected to needed resources, to provide education and reassurance, to assist birth parents to meet and sometimes restructure their goals, and to prevent as much trauma as possible.  Successful breast feeding can decrease maternal depression and anxiety but that is not always true when it is not going well.  Often parents and even providers have unrealistic expectations of milk production.  There are many ways to evaluate how well breast feeding is going and often times simple adjustments can be made that can be game-changing.  For latch and other issues, I also offer craniosacral therapy services.
